The Greater Hartford Interfaith Coalition for Equity and Justice.  First Presbyterian is also a charter member of this coalition of Faith Communities united to bring equity and Justice to the Greater Hartford area.  Their mission statement says:  We shall vigorously address the most pressing issues, problems, inequities and opportunities throughout the Greater Hartford area, in order to achieve a just and righteous community for every child and adult. We begin by acknowledging that racism, classism, sexism, segregation and indifference are at the root of every evil in our region, and will require confrontation and healing in each and every one of our mission efforts.  Click on the link for more information and the latest events.

Plowshares Institute is an international peacemaking ministry whose directors, Bob and Alice Evans, are part of our First Presbyterian family.  Plowshares contributes to a more just and peaceful world community through research and education, service to developing communities, and innovative training in conflict transformation.

Presbyterian Promise has as its mission: To proclaim God's promise of justice and love in Jesus Christ by organizing inclusive and inquiring churches in the Presbytery of Southern New England into a community of mutual support for the empowerment of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender persons, and for outreach, education, and Christian evangelism.

First Presbyterian Church is one of the five churches in the Presbytery who are supporting members of this organization.  Hartford Seminary is located in the West End of the City.  The Seminary describes its Mission as: We seek to serve God by preparing  leaders and institutions, students and scholars to understand and live faithfully in our multi-faith, pluralistic world.

At the January 15, 2008 meeting, the Session voted to have First Presbyterian become the second church in our state to become a More Light Church (New Haven First is a new member also).  By doing so, we have joined our denomination’s national organization  in fighting for the inclusion of GLBT people into the life of the greater church and also followed our own mission of being a more inclusive church.
